Collaboration to Transform Water Access for Smallholder Farmers in Kenya by Grekkon Ltd. and Access2Innovation, supported by GrowthAfrica, TEMCompany, Nordic Impact Funds & P4G.
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership between GrowthAfrica, Grekkon Limited-Irrigation Hub, TEMCompany, and Access2innovation. The partnership is aimed at enhancing water resilience for Kenyan smallholder farmers and represents a significant step towards a more water-resilient future.
This is a promising partnership between a Kenyan and a Danish company that aims to tackle critical challenges such as erratic rainfall and poor groundwater quality, transforming water access in arid and salinity-affected regions. By introducing climate-smart agricultural solutions, we aim to empower farmers to manage water more effectively in the face of unpredictable weather patterns. This initiative is set to reshape the agricultural landscape, equipping farmers with essential tools and knowledge for long-term success, explains Thomas Augustinus, program manager at Access2innovation.
Increasing challenges for farmers
Smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa face increasing challenges due to unpredictable rainfall and low-quality groundwater. This partnership will deliver reliable, cost-effective water and irrigation solutions to farmers in Kenya’s arid and saline areas, addressing their need for stable water supplies and resilient irrigation practices.
In addition to technical expertise from TEMcompany, Access2innovation will contribute business acceleration support, while GrowthAfrica provides access to a network of stakeholders in East Africa. Nordic Impact Funds will support due diligence and investor relations, with each partner tailoring their contributions to advance Grekkon Limited’s investment readiness.
Over the course of the partnership, Grekkon Limited will strengthen its business model, aiming to secure an additional $50,000 in funding. It will also test new mapping technology to raise borehole success rates from 60% to 80%.
