According to a Danish TV Station, A2i member Lars Bendix from Farm Mountain Coffee has taught the normally tea-drinking Ugandan President Museveni to drink coffee. But Lars wants much more than that – he wants the Ugandans to benefit from processing the raw coffee themselves.

From the interview:

“Coffee beans grow on a relatively narrow belt all the way around the globe, just south of the equator. According to Lars Bendix, coffee farmers here have often sent the raw coffee beans to other countries and then let them process the raw material and then sell it on for a big profit.

But now Lars Bendix wants the Ugandans to process the raw material themselves.

-If you take a container of raw coffee beans and send it out, you can earn, let’s say, 100 on it. But if you take a container of espresso, you can earn 750 on it, says Lars Bendix, explaining in a delightfully educational way that the profit on the finished espresso is 7.5 times higher than on the raw coffee.”
