WWF Denmark launches website on Kasese initiative

on .

access2innovation network partner WWF has launched a site with articles and videos about the Kasese Green Energy Champion District initiative.
The goal of the initiative is to make clean energy available for everyone in the predominantly rural district by 2020 and to develop solutions that can be transferred to other parts of Uganda and other African countries.
WWF has engaged with a long range of local and partners – from authorities, municipalities, the royal family in Rwenzori, NGOs, CBOs and private businesses to farmer groups, village councils and international networks like acces2innovation – to reach the ambitious goal.
The consequences of climate change are eerily present in Kasese.
Last year, the worst floodings in 50 years hit the mining city Kilembe just outside Kasese town, killing several people and destroying vital infrastructure.
This year has seen three major floodings already, threatening to destroy the district’s main hospital.
